The Arts

The Arts program at the Zug Campus of ISZL has established itself as an integral part of everyday life.

Music is taught to all students, from Pre-School to Grade 8. In Grades 2 and 3 students have an additional recorder lesson which aims to teach musical notation and prepare students for learning an instrument of their choice from Grades 4 through 8. At the end of the summer term, all students have the opportunity to perform in a series of concerts and recitals.

In addition to these concerts, each year the Middle School classes perform a musical show at a local theatre. The school has three choirs for various age groups. The main school choir enjoys prestige in the local community and has recently performed with the Zurich Symphony Orchestra on a number of occasions.

Building confidence for students to perform begins with the youngest students in their show and tell sessions and assemblies. This is reinforced through the years with class and grade level performances and regular presentations to peers and parents.

In conjunction with the music and drama, creative art work and crafts are taught throughout the programme of inquiry, giving the students the opportunity to express themselves through a variety of materials and dimensions and giving rise to a series of exhibitions and displays during the course of the year. There are numerous excursions to local galleries and museums to reinforce concepts.

The Middle School field weeks to Cortona in Italy and Paris are inspirational for the students' knowledge and perceptions concerning art history and the fundamentals of colour, proportion, perspective and line.

Furthermore there are also extra possibilities for creative and expressive arts through the Middle School rotational activities and after-school clubs.
