Sports
The International School of Zug and Luzern believes that physical activity is necessary for the maintenance of the health and fitness of the students. The sports program highlights developing student's physical skills, interacting cooperatively with others, and discovering an understanding of themselves and their limits.
Physical Education is a compulsory part of the curriculum for students in the Primary Years Program. In addition, a wide variety of sports are offered at a competitive and non-competitive level and many lead to involvement at regional events. Boys' and girls' teams compete annually with other international schools at the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) events in Switzerland.
The Zug Campus offers extra-curricular competitive sports varying according to season including football (girls and boys), basketball (boys), uni-hockey (girls and boys), cross-country (girls and boys), track and field (girls and boys), swimming (girls and boys) and skiing (girls and boys). Students are also encouraged to participate in recreational sports clubs such as mountain biking, swimming, dance, badminton, and rugby.

ISZL values the intrinsic benefit of sports participation and the spirit of team play. Emphasis in Sports Teams is placed foremost on participation, cooperation and good sportsmanship where coaches are teachers and role models for athletes, fostering positive attitudes, teamwork and respect of rules. Participation in team and individual sports at ISZL is a privilege, which may be revoked due to inappropriate behaviour or insufficient academic progress. Academics will always take precedence over sports where such decision must be made.
In addition to ISZL school policies our athletes are also governed by the policies of the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) in which we participate. Furthermore we have obtained associate membership in the Sports Council of International Schools (SCIS),
commencing with the beginning of school year 2009-10. These factors
contribute to the intricacies that are necessary for the operation of
the programme.
It is our goal to offer participation to all our students while, at the same time, developing and selecting competitive and successful teams representing ISZL in games, meets and tournaments in and around Switzerland.
Another word on sportsmanship…
As stated above, good sportsmanship is highly valued at ISZL. While we take great pride in winning and success, it does not condone “winning at any cost”. ISZL strongly discourages any and all pressures, which might tend to neglect good sportsmanship. We ask all parents to help instil this quality in our athletes by setting the best example at athletic events.
