English as an Additional Language
Students arriving in the school who do not speak English as a native language or have little English are tested on their prior knowledge. Students are not required to have English knowledge before entering the Luzern Campus of ISZL. After testing, the appropriate level is determined and an individual programme is developed by the classroom teacher and implemented during the time that the other students attend German lessons. As our classes are small, EAL students receive maximum individual attention and classroom work is differentiated so that these students can participate in the classroom programme at their language level. As the students' English develops, they are introduced to German so that they may be attending one or five lessons a week, depending on their progress.
