The Arts
The four disciplines of visual art, dance, drama and music provide a medium through which students can explore, understand and develop their creative abilities. Students learn how to express themselves through the elements of movement, sound, image and word. Students develop their skills in performance, presentation, communication and collaborative work.
The students show evidence of their learning at a weekly assembly attended by the whole school. This develops confidence and presentation skills. At the end of each term, the students present their work to parents. At the end of Term 1, there is a presentation on the theme ‘Festivals of Light' whereby students study one of the Festivals of Light and present it to the parents through poetry, song and dance. In Term 2, there is a music concert given by students from Grades 1 to 5. This is an instrumental concert and the children in Grades 4 and 5 play pieces on the instruments that they learn in the curriculum (e.g. flute, viola, violin and trumpet), and children in the lower grades play recorder pieces. At the end of the final term, there is a whole school production of drama and music.
