Personal Development Week

Once a year, for a week, students are provided with the opportunity to continue their learning in a non-classroom environment and to engage in a meaningful learning experience which might not be given time in the curriculum. Teachers arrange a variety of trips and activities related to the curriculum which encourage learning through direct experience. Students are able to choose an option that best suits their interests and their desire to travel. Past options have included a week-long course on forensic science held at school, a history trip to Rome and Pompeii, an arts trip to London, a photography trip to Venice, a trip to Andalusia to study Flamenco dance and music, and a climbing, hiking and orienteering trip within Switzerland. Whilst all students may choose from the options available, some may be aimed at older students and require a certain degree of subject knowledge for eligibility; others may be exclusively for students of a specific grade level. Students are expected to participate fully in all activities and will receive a pass/fail for each PDW. These marks will be communicated, along with a teacher comment, when reports are sent home.

The personal development week this year is from 18-22 October 2010.

Grade Level trips to Chalet Bergheim

Our high school grade levels enjoy grade level trips to our Outdoor Education Center in Wengen, Chalet Bergheim. These may be winter sports and activities trips or team building and leadership skill development trips in the spring or autumn.
