Curriculum At the Riverside Campus of ISZL we currently follow the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization until Grade 10. After Grade 10, students may take the two-year IB Diploma Programme or take a combination of Pre-AP and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Further information on these programmes and course offerings follows below and more detailed information on the programmes can be obtained from the respective websites: www.ibo.org and www.collegeboard.com
- Academic Programme
The International Baccalaureate (IB) was the brain-child of Mr. A.D.C Petersen, former Director of the University of Oxford Graduate School of Education, who envisioned in the early 1960s that with a growing population of mobile international professionals, their children, students in international schools, would need a type of "portable diploma" as they transferred from schools and one that would give them access to study in universities in numerous countries. - Course Selection for Students advancing into Grade 9 and 10
In grades 8 through 10, students at the Riverside Campus follow the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB), so the course selection for our younger students is quite straightforward. Read more
- Course Selection for Students advancing into Grade 11 and 12
In grades 11 and 12 at the IB, AP and pre-AP level, student course loads are generally reduced as individual subject work becomes increasingly demanding. Read more
- Course Selection for for all Grades
With all course selections at all levels, we have to caution students and families that some courses will depend upon enrolment, however, we aim to keep to a minimum any scheduling conflicts and cancellations of courses. Read more
- The IB Middle Years Programme
Students at the Riverside Campus are automatically enrolled into the Middle Years Program (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate, a multi-year program that provides students with a broad, well-rounded education that meets the needs of the whole child, and is consistent with our school's Mission Statement. The MYP forms the basis for our students to fulfill many of their graduation requirements. Read more
- The IB Diploma Programme
The International Baccalaureate Organization seeks to ensure that the programme embodies the organization's educational aims in its structure and content. The Diploma curriculum is represented in the form of a hexagon with six academic areas surrounding the core; students take one course from each of the groups 1 through 5, plus an elective as a sixth course which may be another language, science, humanities or arts subject, (In exceptional circumstances the IBO gives dispensation for a student to take all three sciences). - Advanced Placement Examination and Courses
Non-IB students take a combination of Level 5 (pre-AP) and/or Advanced Placement courses. When choosing courses, students need to remember that to graduate they must take a minimum of five courses and to reach at least level 5 in the following four subjects: English, maths, science and humanities. - Selecting AP versus IB
With students free to select any AP, a student strong in maths and the sciences, for example, can take AP exams in just those areas and does not have to take APs in his or her areas of weakness. Conversely, students with broader interests and talents (and hence no area of particular weakness) might often benefit more from taking the IB. Read more
- Promotion and Graduation Requirements
In general, a student will be deemed to have met the minimum requirements for promotion into grade 11 when, by the end of year MYP 4 (grade 10), he or she has completed all the requirements of the Middle Years Programme in all subjects (including technology, physical education, the study of foreign languages), participated in the study of the arts, and completed an MYP personal project.
