Creating Connections at ISZL: Our Commitment to Community Engagement and Warm Welcomes

Fiona Flintham

Our community spirit is at the heart of everything we do. It shapes our events, inspires connections, and builds a strong sense of belonging. From alumni reunions to back-to-school nights, our recent start-of-term events have helped build a strong, inclusive and supportive ISZL community.

Student Ambassadors – Making New Families Feel Welcome

No event embodies the spirit of welcome better than the work of our wonderful Student Ambassadors. Their efforts to support new students throughout the transition process—whether by reaching out during the summer or providing guidance on orientation day—are a reflection of the kindness that we see at ISZL. Their role in making students feel at home is invaluable.

Parents’ Association Coffee Expo – A Warm Welcome for New and Returning Families

Our Parents’ Association (PA) Coffee Expo stood out as a warm embrace for our parents, reflecting the inclusivity that defines ISZL. Local businesses and nonprofit groups joined to share resources with families, while the PA introduced a variety of community-building clubs. From sports groups to hobby clubs, these gatherings offer opportunities for parents to build meaningful connections within the ISZL community.

Back to School Nights – A Bridge Between Parents and Educators

The various Back to School evenings provided parents with the opportunity to connect directly with teachers and staff, nurturing the home-school partnership that is vital to our students’ success. These evenings illustrated the commitment of our educator community to strengthening personal relationships with the families we serve.

Rekindling Alumni Connections

The annual Alumni BBQ was not just a celebration of the past but a testament to the bonds within our community. Former students returned to relive their memories, sharing stories with friends and teachers. The day’s football match between alumni and varsity players was a perfect reminder of the camaraderie that the ISZL spirit continues to create long after graduation.

Fall Sports Season – An Enthusiastic Team Start

Finally, our Fall sports season kicked off with over 350 student-athletes diving into a range of activities. The victories across sports like Cross Country, Football, and Rugby not only reflect the athletic ability at ISZL but also the sense of team spirit and mutual encouragement that defines our student body. These achievements are built on physical skill—but are also a reminder of the support that exists in every corner of our school.

Each of these events highlights what makes ISZL special: our commitment to welcoming, engaging, and connecting every member of our community. Whether through sports, social events, or academic support, we take pride in being a school where everyone feels valued and included.
