On Sunday the 3rd of June, our Riverside Campus hosted a special 'Tag Der Spiele', or Games Day, for families who are part of the local Munterwegs mentoring programme. For 9 years the charitable organisation, Verein Munterwegs, has been supporting children aged between 5 and 11 who have a migrational background with a mentor programme. We currently have 3 High School students taking part in the programme and working as mentors to help the children with learning German and with integration into Swiss culture. Munterwegs also supports them with regular coaching sessions.
Approximately 140 current and former mentors and their mentees came, together with students and staff at the High School, to participate in and try out various games and sports. For many of them climbing and bubble soccer was as new as the Swiss traditional sport 'Schwingen. We also welcomed a group of unaccompanied minors from Immensee to the Games Day. These young people have been meeting with one of our High School Service Learning groups for the last 10 months, with our students helping them to learn German and with their school work.
The day was a great success, and huge thanks and congratulations goes out to the organising team, a group of 12 High School students, and representatives of the 'Verein Munterwegs'.
