Beauty and the Beast
Alyssa Osiecki, Middle School Drama Teacher

The Middle School has delighted us all with this year's musical, 'Beauty and the Beast Jr'. The musical is an annual event that allows students to develop their skills in music, acting and technical theatre whilst making new friendships and gaining new confidence and self-management skills. This stunning production featured the talents of almost 80 students in Grades 6, 7 and 8. Students were active in all aspects of production including acting, stage crew, set design, lights and props. The students invested an enormous amount of after school time to rehearse, practice lines and learn choreography. They agreed that all the work was worth it because it was an amazing experience, over which students really bonded with the other cast and crew members, and became a team. The result is cherished shared memories amongst the entire cast - as one student put it, "This has truly been the best 7 months of my school life!"

As always, this play could not have been accomplished without the efforts of so many staff and parents who came together to support the students. We owe a great debt of gratitude to our entire arts team, including Mr. Stephen York, Ms. Gabriella Willi, Ms. Kirsty Kelly and Mr. David Smith for making the visual and musical aspects of the show come together. The colourful makeup and costumes were designed by a dedicated team of parents headed up by Mrs. Lilian Arriaga. Thank you to all involved for being a part of this unforgettable show. All students who will be in Grades 6-8 next year are encouraged to get involved in the 2018-2019 musical. No experience is required, simply enthusiasm and a desire to learn. We hope many will join us next year for what is sure to be yet another stunning production!
