Covid -19 (Coronavirus) Update - 18 February 2020
Currently, there are no confirmed cases in Switzerland. ISZL continues to follow the advice of the Swiss Health Department, BAG (Bundesamt für Gesundheit / Swiss Federal Office of Public Health). Their current advice and recommendations include the following:
If you were recently in China
We advise during the 14 days after your departure from China:
➢ Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or with a hand disinfectant.
➢ Avoid large crowds, such as sporting events or public transportation.
➢ If you have difficulty breathing, coughing or fever: stay at home or in the hotel. Don't go out in public anymore. Contact a doctor or healthcare facility immediately, first by phone. Say that you have recently been to China and have complaints.
Consequently, ISZL has taken the decision that if a member of your immediate family has travelled to China during the February break, you and your child/ren need to self exclude from school for two weeks.
Please inform the school office and school nurses of this self-exclusion in order to arrange ongoing learning for your child/ren with teachers via the VLE. If anyone in your family develops a fever during this time period, contact your doctor immediately and follow their instructions.
Similarly, if you have had direct contact with someone with confirmed Covid-19 infection, the 2 week exclusion period must be adhered to.
Please note a temporary change in policy for all children: If your child is sick with a fever, the period required to be fever free before their return to school without medication will be extended to 48 hours.
The Swiss Health Department has set up a hotline number for public use and we advise you to call this number if you have further questions at this stage.
General Public Hotline: 058 463 00 00.
As a school, we continue to adhere to the thorough cleaning practices and have hand sanitisers in all classrooms. The promotion of regular hand washing will be encouraged and we ask that you reiterate this at home with your children.
The safety and well being of our students is of the utmost importance and we will be monitoring this changing situation very closely. We will keep families at ISZL updated with any ongoing developments.
Thank you for your attention and vigilance with this health alert as we strive to keep our school community healthy and safe.
School Nurses and Leadership Team
In response to the recent outbreak of the CoronaVirus (2019-nCoV), we want to communicate that ISZL is following the appropriate guidance given out through the BAG (Bundesamt für Gesundheit / Swiss Federal Office of Public Health) and we will keep you informed of any advised changes. The current advice and recommendations state the following:
Airports in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and other cities in Asia have introduced screening measures for passengers from China. The United States has established screening measures at Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York (JFK) airports for travellers from Wuhan. In Europe, measures for direct flights from Wuhan were also implemented at the Fiumicino airport in Rome and Heathrow airport in London. Increased surveillance measures can also be expected at other international airports. Travel to Wuhan is currently discouraged, as the city has been quarantined by the authorities and traffic connections are very limited.
For trips to the other regions of China, the BAG recommends:
- Good personal hygiene measures such as washing your hands regularly
- Sneeze or cough into a tissue (or the crook of your arm)
- Avoid contact with people with respiratory symptoms if possible
- Avoid larger crowds
- Observe local instructions and recommendations
- Travellers who return from China with breathing difficulties or symptoms of illness should - after prior telephone contact - see a doctor and highlight any travel to China
The Swiss Health Department has set up a hotline number for public use and we advise you to call this number if you have further questions at this stage. General Public Hotline: 058 463 00 00.
We would like to highlight the importance of adhering to the school policy in regard to illness. Please ensure students are 24 hours free from fever without medication and feeling well before returning to school.
We continue to adhere to the thorough cleaning practices at school with sanitisers in all classrooms, the promotion of regular handwashing and the daily professional cleaning of all spaces.
The safety and well being of our students is of the utmost importance and we will be monitoring this rapidly changing situation very closely. We will keep families at ISZL updated with any ongoing developments. Thank you for your attention and vigilance with this health alert as we strive to keep our school community healthy and safe.
