Singing at an International Choir Festival
Ann-Sophie H, Grade 10 Student

A few weeks ago I was very honoured to be able to fly to Berlin for the 2018 AMIS High School Honor Girls’ Choir Festival. AMIS stands for The Association for Music in International Schools, and organises music festivals all over the world for choirs, jazz bands, orchestras, solo and ensembles.

I had an amazing time in Berlin, and met many new people from all over the world, who had the same passion and love for music that I do. Overall we were 200 students, selected from thousands of applicants around the world. We were split up into 3 choirs; a men’s choir, a women’s choir, and a mixed choir. We were fortunate to have very experienced guest conductors, who we got to work with for the 3 days of the festival. On the final day, we had a gala concert in the Berlin Radio station symphonic hall. At the end of this concert all 200 students sang together on stage, and performed a song that was especially composed for this event.

I have learned so many valuable things during these days, and had the opportunity to make new friends during this festival. Many thanks to Ms LeGuen for her support during the audition process and for accompanying me to Berlin. I would also encourage all students to get involved with the various choirs at ISZL.
