Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinators and Network group explain the work they are doing at ISZL
“We are all ISZL” is more than just a poster or phrase you hear around campus, it is something we see in action through the active and vital Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) staff and student groups, ongoing alignment of policies and practices to our beliefs, and most especially through our school Mission Statement:
We are a community of learners determined to make the world - or our corner of it- a better, kinder place. We reflect our values in everything we do so that we make the most of opportunities and challenges in a spirit of enthusiastic inquiry.
ISZL was awarded the Educate and Celebrate Pride in Inclusion Award in spring of 2020. Student and staff Pride Networks worked through the many initiatives of this award scheme to bring forward conversations, policy changes, like updating the schools inclusion policy, as well as positive school-wide initiatives regarding dress codes and gender neutral bathrooms. The momentum of this success has not slowed down. While the established student Pride groups are still going strong, the staff Pride Network has now shifted focus to supporting all areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinators and Network Group kicked off in January of 2021 with renewed excitement to support positive school wide initiatives in a variety of areas around campus. The wider focus enables the group to
- Lead conversations
- share professional development across divisions that showcase diverse and inclusive practices
- work on targeted objectives such as diversity audits.
The group seeks opportunities to discuss and think critically about our beliefs and practices as a community and is currently setting new DEI targets. We look forward to sharing more about DEI initiatives and celebrating all that encompasses our belief that “We are all ISZL!”
