Chalet Bergheim

ISZL's Outdoor EDUCATION Centre

ISZL is incredibly fortunate to own a beautiful, purpose built wood chalet, located in the famous mountain village of Wengen, in the heart of the glorious Berner Oberland. Chalet Bergheim is home to the school’s Outdoor Education Centre and offers our students endless opportunities for class trips, winter sports, exploration and outdoor learning.

Chalet Bergheim has numerous generously sized en-suite rooms, a lounge, a multi-purpose classroom and dining area. With spectacular mountain ranges, 213 kilometers of prepared ski slopes, hiking trails, waterfalls, glaciers and the Lauterbrunnen Gorge all in close proximity, Chalet Bergheim is busy all year long, hosting at least 30 student led trips in any academic year as well as other meetings, workshops and conferences.

The centre can accommodate up to 100 students and staff involved in a wide range of diverse activities from field studies in alpine environments to ski team competitions and wind and string instrument rehearsals. Chalet Bergheim completes the ISZL learning experience in so many ways, whether it is an International Award trip or a Physics in the Mountains trip. Students work both inside the Chalet and outside using the unique environment around them as an extension of the classroom.

About Wengen

Wengen is holiday resort, which lies on a wind-protected sun terrace at the foot of the Jungfrau, 400 metres above the Lauterbrunnen valley at an altitude of 1274 m. The car-free village offers a family-friendly ski and rambling area around the Männlichen and the Kleine Scheidegg.

With its nostalgic timber houses, the many dispersed holiday chalets and hotels dating from the belle époque period, Wengen has retained all the character of a picture-postcard mountain village.
