It has been a successful Model United Nations (MUN) season for ISZL students. First, a group of eight students gave up part of their October break to attend the small, well-organised MUN at neighbouring international school, Institut Montana. The intimate atmosphere allowed students to feel comfortable taking an active part and all of our students had their moment on the debate floor. We were very proud that ISZL student Ben A. was voted the 'best delegate' among the 150+ participants.

Following this experience, in later November, fourteen students in Grades 11 and 12 headed to Barcelona for the second MUN of the year. The Barcelona venue was new to us and chosen for its relatively small size (400+) which gave students greater opportunities for meaningful interactions. The broad topic was 'Fake News' which allowed for connections in several subject areas. Adele O. and Stefanie W. each proposed resolutions that were debated and ultimately passed – quite an accomplishment! Ben A. was voted 'most likely to be President' from his committee and was always surrounded by delegates deep in debate. Our students were excellent ambassadors for our school.

In spite of the intense days, we were able to enjoy some culture in the form of night wanders past Gaudi masterpieces in search of local tapas. On the last night the entire sea of delegates gathered for a social in a popular local venue to cement newfound friendships and debate partners. It was certainly time well spent for all our students.
