The ISZL Student Support Services Handbook gives families all of the information needed to access and understand the services we offer as a school. We are committed to providing a programme which is accessible to all of our students and to support those students who need it to achieve their very best.
English as an Additional Language
meaningful, relevant and responsive to YOUR CHILD'S needsAt ISZL, English as an Additional Language (EAL) support means extra English language support for students in Kindergarten to Grade 10 who come from non-English speaking backgrounds or have been educated in a language other than English. EAL students thrive in our supportive environment where learning is meaningful, relevant and responsive to their needs. We are proud to have a dedicated team of specialist EAL teachers who are at the forefront of international discussion on best practice for EAL students.
New students wanting to join Grade 8 -12 who come from non-English speaking backgrounds or have been educated in a language other than English are asked to demonstrate their level of English language proficiency in order to meet the English language requirements for each grade.
At ISZL, our specialist EAL team consistently and carefully monitors EAL student's progress. Students who are new to the English language typically receive support for three to four years.
For more information about ISZL’s EAL Language Requirements and the assessment procedure for new students, please contact Admissions.
In the High School, EAL students who need extra English support to meet the academic English demands of the MYP curriculum, will take an EAL course as one of their Language Acquisition options, have extra support by being placed in a differentiated English Language and Literature course, and receive in-class support.
