In High School, learning goes beyond meeting academic expectations. It’s about helping students grow into thoughtful, capable, and globally-minded individuals. We offer a variety of pathways so that each student can shape a learning experience that fits their strengths, interests, and future goals. These include the International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme (IBDP), Advanced Placement® (AP), BTEC, and ISZL courses, all leading to qualifications recognised around the world.

Learning at the High School is designed to nurture internationally-minded, creative, and environmentally-conscious students. In Grades 9 and 10, students enjoy a broad, balanced, and conceptually rich learning experience grounded in the IB’s Middle Years Programme. This foundation prepares them to engage in a wide variety of courses in Grades 11 and 12 — opportunities that few schools of our size can offer.

Beyond academics, we encourage students to step outside their comfort zones and embrace challenges.

Experiential Learning and Personal Growth

We believe in learning extending beyond the classroom. Students in Grades 9 and 10 embark on multi-day mountain trips in their homeroom groups, developing teamwork skills and personal growth in the beautiful surroundings of Chalet Bergheim in Wengen.

Each year, students in Grades 9–11 also take part in Personal Development Weeks (PDWs), where they can select from a range of service-oriented, experiential activities designed to broaden perspectives and develop a sense of responsibility to others.

A Collaborative and Supportive Community

The High School experience is more than just academics — it’s about building lasting relationships and creating a supportive, collaborative community. We know how important it is for students to feel seen, heard, and supported, which is why we focus on making sure all students feel like they belong.

Each student is placed in a “homeroom” group: a close-knit team of around ten students who meet regularly with their homeroom mentor. These groups stay together throughout the four years of High School, helping each other navigate challenges, celebrate achievements, and grow together.

The homeroom mentor plays a vital role, offering guidance, support, and encouragement. At graduation, it is the homeroom mentor — not the principal — who invites students on stage to receive their high school diplomas, marking the culmination of their shared journey.

A Bespoke Futures Programme

In Grade 12, our Futures Programme offers students the chance to reflect on their personal growth and prepare for life after High School, whether that means university or other exciting adventures. They also unwind after their mock exams with a traditional mountain winter experience, creating cherished memories with their peers.

All of our students have the opportunity to engage with Youth Forum Switzerland (YFS) — an inspiring student-led event founded by ISZL students. YFS has grown into a prominent annual gathering, bringing together over 1,000 students from Switzerland, Europe, and beyond to discuss key global issues and develop leadership skills.

I was lucky enough to travel to Nepal for PDW, and the energy of the teachers, students, and staff was truly inspiring. It left me with a newfound optimism for the world.

Isobel H, High School Student

Being part of the NAG service group has shown me the importance of helping others directly. Our students often return after graduation to continue contributing, and it’s amazing to see the impact they make.
