Learning That Saves Lives: ISZL’s High School First Aid Club
Daniel Urech’s contribution to the International School of Zug and Luzern has been extraordinary and enduring.
Over many years of service, including as Board Chair, he helped shape not only ISZL’s direction but also its values and culture, which continue to define the school today. Dan led with clarity, integrity, and a deep sense of stewardship. He was never guided by short-term thinking or easy decisions, but by what was right for the long-term well-being of the school and our community. In moments of complexity, he brought calm judgement, thoughtful reflection, and an unwavering commitment to ISZL’s mission.
His legacy lives not only in the school’s development and governance, but in the character of our community itself.
What distinguished Dan’s leadership was his remarkable ability to listen carefully and bring people together. He approached differing perspectives with openness, respect, and genuine curiosity, helping turn difficult conversations into constructive dialogue. He understood that strong governance is not simply about oversight, but about creating the conditions in which students, faculty, staff, and families can flourish.
Those who worked closely with Dan experienced not only his intellectual rigour and professionalism but also his warmth, humility, and humanity. He challenged others to think more clearly, communicate more thoughtfully, and remain anchored in values and purpose. His influence extended far beyond formal meetings and strategic decisions.
Alongside his dedication to education, Dan brought a deep appreciation for music, learning, and community. Together with his family, he opened his home generously, creating spaces filled with conversation, warmth, friendship, and culture. These moments reflected the kind of leadership he embodied: thoughtful, relational, and deeply human.
The ISZL community today is stronger because of Dan’s wisdom, care, and years of dedicated service. His legacy lives not only in the school’s development and governance, but in the character of our community itself.
As he steps down from his service as a Board member, it is with deep gratitude that ISZL thanks Daniel Urech for his exceptional leadership and lasting contribution to generations of students, families, faculty, and staff.
